Grass Farming vs. Factory Farming

 Grass Fed vs. Grain Fed

Raising animals on pasture is dramatically different from the status quo. Virtually all the meat, eggs and dairy products that you find in the supermarket come from animals raised in confinement in large facilities called CFAO's, or "Confined Animal Feeding Operations". These highly mechanized operations provide year-round supply of food at a reasonable price. Although the food is cheap and convenient, there is growing recognition that factory farming createa s host of problems, including:

  • animal stress and abuse;
  • air, land and water pollution;
  • unneccessary use of hormones, antibiotics and other drugs;
  • loss of the small family farm;
  • food with less nutritional value.

What is grass Fed, or Pasture Fed, Beef?

Put simply, Ephraim Mountain Farm grass fed beef is exactly that--beef animals that are fed grass and raised in pastures. Most cattle in teh United States are not grass fed, but instead grain fed.
